Los Feliz is a neighborhood or "village" as many like to call it, nestled in the north-central region of the city of Los Angeles, California. Los Felices means the happy [people] in Spanish, says Wikipedia. However, the name "Los Feliz" actually refers to a family with the surname of Feliz that owned property in the area in the 19th century.
Rancho Los Feliz was 8,000 acres of the prettiest and richest land in all California. After the death of the last Feliz, Don Antonio, the land was inherited by an acquaintance, Don Antonio Coronel, who was said to have gained the land by ill means—which left the last Feliz heir, 19-year-old niece Petranilla, with nothing. She cursed Coronel and the lawyer, Don Innocante, who helped Coronel write the "influenced" will, while Don Antonio lay on his deathbed. Rumor has been passed along that the curse of Feliz has remained throughout the years. Misfortune fell upon each of the owners, including Griffith J. Griffith—the man whom Griffith Park is named after. They even say the ghost of Don Antonio has been seen through the centuries. Griffith eventually donated the land to the city as a park after all of the mishaps he encountered with the property. More can be read about the Myth of Griffith Park in an article written by Mike Eberts, author of the Griffith Park History Project.
We believe Los Feliz is one of the best neighborhoods in Los Angeles to discover nightlife, living, and dining. "The neighborhood has historically been home to movie stars, musicians, other assorted members of the glitterati, and members of the Hollywood elite, states Wikipedia." And we sometimes get a glimpse of the likes of Madonna, Gwen, and Leonardo spending time enjoying the hood. Our celebrity neighbors among us have also included, Flea (Michael Balzary) and Anthony Kiedis of The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kirstie Alley, Colin Farrell, Brad Pitt, Mandy Moore, Eddie Van Halen and Valerie Bertinelli, Beck, Gavin Rossdale and so many more. (Our community seems to attract plenty of musicians!)
