Fun Christmas Party Activities For Boys

Make it one they would really love. The games and activities you organize can make the difference between a boring party and one they would talk excitedly about for weeks to come.

Yes, food is important. But so isthe entertainment. A must for any Christmas party for kids is the appearance of jolly old Santa Claus. Get a willing guy to dress up as Santa Claus, in that red suit, white beard and stomach padding for the occasion.

Prepare a large sack of presents for Santa to give out to the kids as he makes his grand entrance. Get a photographer to take photos for the guests with Santa. If possible, download these photos to a PC and have the photos made into calendars or other souvenirs for the guests to take home after the party.

Why just stick to Santa. Get the full supporting cast with Santarina (a pretty woman dressed up in a short, female Santa dress). Get a pair of bickering elves to accompany them for comic relief. These characters are pivotal to the plot in this Christmas party.

After giving out presents to all the guests and taking photos with everyone, Santa suddenly realizes he lost his magical treasure box. He pulls out a photo of it and shows all the kids. What follows is a treasure hunt. The kids a split into 4 search teams to find that box. The team that finds the box wins. Santa would pull out prizes for the winners from his sack.

After the kids have settled down with the prize and all the guests had time to help themselves to the party food, Santarina dashes into the room, screaming, 'We're under attack!'. The boys are ushered outdoors where a large pail filled with water is waiting for them. They are given plastic bags to make water bombs. Grown ups in Halloween costumes approach them, making scary noises. The boys fend off the intruders with water bombs. After the intruders are chased away, everyone celebrates with a log cake. Note, if it is snowing, or the ground is covered with snow, have a snowball fight instead. If the weather is too cold outside for a water fight, give the boys light sabers or ping pong balls as weapons.

Let the kids have warm drinks and desserts by the fireplace. If you have time for one more game, make it a Christmas version of Sardines.

Get the elves to tip toe into the room, acting frightened and whispering to each other. Then they call the kids to gather around them to whisper what they have seen. 'Too many invaders. We have to go into hiding while Santa leads his forces against the new invaders. We need you to follow us. Hide with us until the coast is clear' or something along that line.

With that, the elves leave the room. Santarina stops them from leaving as she hands each boy the supplies they need. Chocolate bars for energy and a bottle of water or a bottled drink in case they get thirsty. Santa delays them further by handing them light sticks to light the way.

By then, is should be dark. Turn off all the lights and let the kids find their way using their light sticks.

Each child who finds the elves hides with them. The elves can entertain them with card games or stories.

After the last child finds the elves, the game ends. Santa and Santarina emerge victorious as they enter the room.

The kids are given they photo souvenirs and led to their waiting parents.

boys: do underwear really matter? thongg vs normal?

I went bra and undie shopping today and I was so annoyed because it's hard to find lots of undies to match the bras you buy!
First, it made me wonder: do boys really care your bra and panties match? i mean, there was a big stir up when britney spears went into the water with mis matched bra and panties..i dont get it!
Also, do the type of underwear a girl wears really also matter as well? I know big ol granny panties cant be hott- but I dont see the problem with reg coverage undies. I work with kids so i'm constantly running around; I can't really wear a thong in work slacks & boy shorts can be uncomfy under jeans. my current bf hasn't gotten to panty level yet-haha--- but i dont want to have to change my undies everytime i go see him bc reg undies arent hott to men!

I don't like thongs - they remind me of pornstars and girls who are promiscuous. I prefer panties much more.

I don't care whether they match the bra though.

Entertainment, Restaurants and Bars in Birmingham

With the exception of two of the city's theatres, most of the night-life in Birmingham is centred on the Broad Street area, which includes the International Convention Centre, the National Indoor Arena, the Symphony Hall, the Repertory Theatre and the re-furbished Town Hall, not to mention numerous bars and clubs. Not that Birmingham is a 'one street city' when it comes to having a night out. The area between Sparkhill, Moseley and Balsall Heath has a national reputation for a particular style of cuisine along with notable Irish and Chinese quarters too.

Bars and Pubs:
In the city centre if you want an evening out in one of the so called 'drinking palaces', then head for Broad Street, where as well as the national chains of such pubs and bars you'll find places like Stoodi Baker's, which has several rooms ranging from a small and trendy bar to more cavernous rooms complete with dance-floor and professional Go-Go dancers. However, if you step off Broad Street into Brindley Place you enter an area where the pubs and bars have a quieter and more relaxed ambience.

Between Colmore Row and New Street several old banks and commercial premises have been tastefully converted into bars. For example the Old Joint Stock on Temple Row; with balustrades, balconies, chandeliers and the most fantastic front door in the city, gives you the feeling of entering a country club rather than a city bar. Bennetts, on nearby Bennetts Hill, is another former bank turned into a bar. Its plush Regency finish could fool you into thinking you've entered a library instead. Both of these bars serve a good selection of beers, lagers and wine as well as some excellent food. With a history dating back to 1821, the Tap and Spile on Gas Street is an old and original pub by the side of the canal. It's a Free House and serves a good selection of nationally renowned beers and international lagers.

Restaurants:
The so called 'Balti triangle' between Sparkhill, Moseley and Balsall Heath is where you'll find the best of Birmingham' famed Balti restaurants. The award winning Al Frash, on Ladypool Road in Sparkbrook, is probably the best known of the Balti Houses. Located on Broad street is Birmingham's favourite Indian restaurant, Shimla Pinks. It claims to be "...the UKs most stylish place to experience Indian cuisine" if you visit it you'll probably end up agreeing with them. This is no ordinary Indian restaurant to go for a cheap curry, main course prices rise from 15 GBP to 45 GBP a head. The Mailbox has several stylish bars and restaurants, such as Zizzi which serves mainly Italian food. Prices are very reasonable at around 20 GBP a head for a three course meal, Zizzi also has a good selection of reasonably priced wines.

Near the Arcadian Centre in the Chinese Quarter is the Chung Yin on Wrottesley Street. This is the best Chinese restaurant in the city. It specialises in Cantonese cuisine and produces 70 different varieties of dim sum. Chung Yin is popular and always busy, a main course is priced around the 10 GBP mark. Whilst the above restaurants reflect how multi-cultural Birmingham is there are plenty of restaurants offering British and French cuisine. In the city centre two of the places to go are the Berlioz Restaurant in Burlington Arcade and Apres on Summer Row. Brindley Place, behind the ICC and NIA, is very popular with diners going to places such as; Cafe Rouge, Le Petit Blanc, Bank and The Locks. If you're near the Art Gallery, on Chamberlain Square, during the day time a visit to its Edwardian Tea Room is highly recommended. A large and fancily decorated room with cast iron pillars sets the scene for morning coffee, lunch or afternoon tea in the city.

Entertainment:
Birmingham has three major theatres. The Hippodrome is home to the Royal Ballet and hosts touring drama, musical, ballet and opera productions. Almost half a million people a year visit the Hippodrome making it one of the most popular theatres in the country. The Hippodrome is in the Chinese quarter of the city on Hurst Street. The Alexandra is another theatre that hosts touring productions in Birmingham. On Station Street, just up from New Street, it is smaller than the Hippodrome but still manages to attract the 'big name' productions. The theatre is also used by 'one night stand' touring music and comedy acts. Originally founded in 1913 the Birmingham Repertory Theatre is one of the best in the country. Right by the Symphony Hall in Centenary Square, it has its own company of players as well as having being used for touring drama productions.

At Millennium Point, Curzon Street, to the south of the city is the Birmingham Imax cinema, which has a five-storey screen. Incorporated into the International Convention Centre (ICC), which amongst other things has hosted the annual Labour party conference, is the Birmingham Symphony Hall. With its world class acoustics and auditorium it is home to the city's equally famous symphony orchestra, it is also used by touring musicians, bands, singers and orchestras. Not far from the ICC and Symphony Hall is the National Indoor Arena. Built to be the indoor venue for sporting events in the country it is also used by touring bands, musical and comedy productions. Whilst many of the city's nightclubs are along Broad Street the area around Digbeth to the south of the city also has a tradition of contributing to the city's nightlife. One such place is the Factory Club on Gibb Street in what is known collectively as the Custard Factory, as once it was. There is also The Sanctuary, which is on Digbeth High Street and has for many years been seen as Birmingham's premier 'clubbing' venue. The top comedy spot in Birmingham is The Glee Club which is in the Arcadian entertainment area not far from the Hippodrome theatre.

Tips for Tiny Triathlon Transition Times

What if there was a way to shave seconds, or even minutes, off your race times without doing a thing to your current training regimen? Sounds too good to be true, right? Wrong.

Practicing and mastering transitions is by far the easiest way to shave time off your triathlon races. With how competitive age group racing has become, even a few seconds could be the difference between a medal around your neck, or a sour taste in your mouth. Lets look at five things you can do to speed your way through T1 and T2 and gain time on your competition.

Transition tip #1: Practice!

It does not matter if you know exactly what to do and have ran through it 1,000 times in your head. If you are in the middle of a race with your heart pounding out of your chest, nerves racing, and blood pumping, 95% of the time you will screw up something if you do not practice it.

You need to practice unzipping and pulling off your wetsuit in a fatigued state, taking your bike/run shoes off and on, putting on your helmet and sunglasses, getting on and off your bike safely and quickly, etc. Even simple motor tasks become difficult when you are under pressure. Developing muscle memory through practice will make it second nature for you to perform these tasks in any situation, even under extreme stress.

Transition tip #2: Lube up

If you are wearing a wetsuit in your race, which you should be, it is very important to be able to take it off quickly in transition. If you struggle to get the thing off, it will negate any advantage you gained in the swim by wearing it.

Put some Body Glide or baby oil around your calves/ankles as well as your wrists/forearms. This will help the wetsuit slide off your body without you having to struggle. Don’t be the person wiggling and thrashing around on the ground after they fell over trying to get their feet out of the wetsuit. Along with lube, a proper fitting wetsuit is also important.

Transition tip #3: Place equipment properly

If you are one of those people that bring a king size beach towel and have all your stuff strewn all over, just stop it. You only need something about the size of a small workout towel for your gear. Having everything compact and close together will eliminate wasted time searching and moving around to get things. Your fellow racers will thank you too.

Your towel should be organized like this from top to bottom:

-Running shoes with socks (optional) on top of your shoes. Not wearing socks will save a few seconds, but don’t do it unless you have been trained without socks without any problems. If you wear a hat during the run, place it on top of your shoes so it’s the first thing you put on. If you wear a nutrition belt you can put that on top of your shoes also. Just make sure the straps are wide open so all you have to do is grab, wrap, and snap. Some people put their race belt on under their wetsuit so they don’t ever have to mess with it.

-Cycling shoes (if you don’t strap them to your bike) with your helmet resting on top with straps pulled out and fully extended.

-Sunglasses and race belt should go inside your helmet in a position that makes them easy to put on without fumbling around.

Some people put their helmet on top of their bike. This works well, until the person next to you bumps the bike rack or your bike and your helmet falls off and rolls away from your transition area.

Transition tip #4: Clip your cycling shoes into your bike before the race

Disclaimer: This is the tip that requires the most practice to truly master. Please do not attempt unless you are confident in your athletic ability and bike handling skills.

The technique of having your bike shoes already clipped in before the race will save time by allowing you to just put your helmet on, grab your bike, and go. You will run out of transition barefoot, mount your bike, and pedal with your feet on top of your shoes. Once you get moving on a flat stretch of ground, well clear of the mount line, you can bend down and strap each foot in. Make sure there are no riders around you and you are not on an uphill or steep downhill section. If you have to ride a while before you find a good flat stretch of ground, no problem. You’re still gaining ground on people trying to put their shoes on in transition and run with their clunky cleats.

To keep your shoes from dragging on the ground, put a thin rubber band through the loop on the heel of one shoe and hook it to your quick release lever on the rear wheel. This will keep your shoes in a fixed position until you start pedaling and the rubber band snaps.

Transition tip #5: Don’t sit. Stand or kneel.

The goal in transition is to save time; there is no place for sitting in a race. Sometimes standing can also be difficult when you’re tired and/or dizzy after the swim. When you dip your head down to put your shoes on and pick up any other gear you need, a massive head rush may ensue and you could end up taking an unintended nap for a bit.

An alternative method is to get down on one knee like you are proposing to the bike rack, place your first shoe on the front foot, then switch and do the same to the other side. You will need to put another towel in front of your transition area to keep your knees from getting scraped up.

Hopefully these several tips will help you save some time in transition and give you a small edge. If you’ve ever tried to run someone in your age group down at the finish, but can’t quite bridge the gap, a few seconds saved in transition could have made the difference. These are not the only time saving strategies out there. Feel free to be creative and experiment in training to find what works for you. Happy training and racing!

wetsuit sized at sea world?

im signing up for the dolphin interaction program at sea world and it asks for your wetsuit size ive never worn a wet suit and the sizes for women they offer are 4 6 8 10 12 14 and 16 would it be safe for me just to pick the size closest to my actual clothes size or would that give me a wrong size? thanks for answering

How East Coast Surf Became Popular

Have you been invited to an East Coast Surf? Surfers worldwide would travel and go the distance just to find that perfect wave that they can ride. Sting Ray

Fish Anatomy

Fish anatomy includes fins, gills, bones, skin, and internal organs. The gills have a cover over them called an operculum and it is used to protect the gills.  Agnathas, which are jawless fish such as Sting Rays and Sharks, have gill slits. The water enters through their mouth and then over the gills of the fish. When water passes over the fish’s gills, it allows oxygen to enter the bloodstream and then get sent to various parts of its body. Sharks and Sting Rays both have nostrils, but these are only used for smelling out their next meal, not for breathing.

Another part of fish anatomy are the fins. The fins are used for stability, steering and swimming through the water. There are two fins in particular that help the fish stay stable and keep it from rolling. Those are the anal fins and the dorsal fin. The caudal fin is used to help them to steer and move forward and the pectoral fin also helps them to steer as well as brake in the water. The pelvic fin is used like a leveler to keep them level in the water.

Fish anatomy also includes the shape of the fish. Fish species have about six main body shapes. The flat body shape is found in Flounder, Sting Rays, Sole, and Skates. The fusiform body shape is found in Salmon, Tuna, Barracuda, and Sharks. Round body shapes are porcupine fish while ribbon shapes are found in cutlass. The compressed body shapes are seen in Angel Fish and Butterfly Fish. And the elongated body shape is found in eels, needlefish, and lamprey.

Fish anatomy is not all that complex. They have five senses just as man does, with the exception of the lateral line. The lateral line is simply a series of scales modified by a pore. This pore connects with another system of nerve fibers and sensory cells. The lateral line runs from the gills to the tail and can be seen from the outside. It is the darker line that runs across the center of the fish. It can detect electrical currents in the water and is also used as an echo location in order for it to identify the surroundings. One of the five senses of a fish is vision, which is very limited depending on the conditions of water and lighting. Fish have a highly developed sense of smell and taste which enables them to find their food and know if it is good or not. Fish have a very elevated sense of touch as well. Fish are known to be deaf but some believe that they can hear, although they are not sure whether it is only vibrations felt through the water or actual hearing.
